Farm Bento
R likes to make her lettuce wraps herself. I think most of the fun is the choosing and the filling and the wrapping. But they barely have enough time to eat lunch, and I was afraid she'd get it all assembled and then the bell would ring. It reminds me of my mom's story about when my cousin Brenda was little, and she spilled her milk. My granddad picked up her hands and turned them over in his and said, "It's amazing they can do anything at all, with hands this little." First graders can do a lot of things, but their hands are still pretty small.

Two Zoo Visits
Spring weather makes us remember the zoo, after a long winter of forgetting it's there.
We went on Saturday with our neighbor friends.
R consulted the map.
Carousel joy!
And two weeks ago, we went with my high school friend Margaret and her kids.
Margaret's son is one day younger than R. I remember her calling me from her hospital bed, to congratulate me in my hospital bed.

Collard Green & Ricotta Pizza
After many attempts, I finally figured out how to make homemade pizza that my family likes. Half whole-wheat, half white-whole-wheat flour with a little honey in the dough; unglazed quarry tiles on the bottom rack of the oven for a pizza stone; coarse cornmeal on the bottom of the crust; bake at 500 degrees.
Ours was caramelized onions and sauteed collard greens with ricotta cheese and parmesan.
R's was tomato sauce, spinach, ricotta and parmesan cheese.
